What Does Cyber Insurance Cost in 2026? A Data-Driven Breakdown

The Question Every Prospect Asks

"How much is this going to cost me?" It's the first question every prospect asks, and until now, most brokers couldn't answer it without submitting to a carrier and waiting a week.

We built a premium estimation model calibrated from public benchmark data — NetDiligence, Marsh, and Coalition reports — combined with real-time security posture scoring. Here's what the data shows for 2026.

Base Premiums by Company Size

For a $1M aggregate limit with a $25K retention (the most common small-business configuration):

  • Under $1M revenue: $800-$2,000/year
  • $1M-$5M revenue: $1,500-$4,500/year
  • $5M-$25M revenue: $4,000-$12,000/year
  • $25M-$100M revenue: $12,000-$35,000/year

These are starting points. The actual premium depends heavily on three factors.

What Moves the Price

Industry matters most. Healthcare companies pay 35% more than the baseline. Financial services adds 30%. Legal services adds 20%. Technology companies often get 10-15% discounts due to better baseline security.

Security posture is the second factor. A company scoring below 40 on our 18-check assessment can expect a 45% premium surcharge. Above 80, they'll see a 15% discount. The difference between a well-secured and poorly-secured company at the same revenue level can be 60% in premium.

Breach history is the wildcard. A single prior breach adds 40% to the premium. Two or more breaches add 65%. These surcharges persist for 3-5 years.

How Brokers Can Use This

When a prospect asks "how much?", you can now give a data-backed range instead of saying "it depends." That range sets expectations, qualifies the lead (a $500K company expecting to pay $200/year isn't a viable prospect), and positions you as knowledgeable about the market.
